Are you interested in working on nonprofit projects in Boise, Idaho? If so, you may be wondering what organizations provide legal advice for such projects. Fortunately, there are a number of organizations that can help. The Idaho Trial Lawyers Association (ITLA) is a not-for-profit, statewide organization dedicated to providing equal access to justice for people with low incomes through quality legal services. ITLA's student division works to facilitate student participation in the Urban Law Clinic, which offers free walk-in legal advice in Boise.
Additionally, students from both locations participate in the VITA (Voluntary Income Tax Assistance) program to help taxpayers with income tax preparation. Project Othello of the Latino Law Caucus is another great resource. Students travel annually to Othello, Washington to provide general legal information to agricultural workers. ITLA also offers the Investigation Assistance Program for Trial Judges and Help the Judge program, which assists Idaho judges who do not have the help of a legal secretary with research and writing projects.
The Program of Legislative Research Assistance allows students to assist Idaho legislators with research and writing projects during the legislative session. The underserved and needy groups that have been served by these programs include older people with fixed incomes, same-sex couples and other unmarried couples, and veterans. The Idaho Heritage Project – Rural Services Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to students doing free summer internships or services in rural communities across the state of Idaho. Under the supervision of licensed attorneys in the area and in coordination with community organizations, students educate workers about the law, conduct admissions and referral interviews, and provide real-time advice on legal issues such as landlord/tenant rights, employment rights, rights to education, and other legal matters.
Most students find or develop individual projects for a wide variety of clients in coordination with private, public and non-profit attorneys in Idaho, the West and the country. The Idaho Nonprofit Center provides excellent training and technical assistance to charitable nonprofit organizations throughout Idaho. Finally, the Idaho Humane Society helps more animals in the state of Idaho than any other non-profit organization dedicated to animals in the state. It is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States and is an especially high cause of death among young and old people.
